Bohol to Camiguin: Direct Ferry & Via Cagayan de Oro
TL;DR
Direct route: Super Shuttle RORO runs Jagna (Bohol) → Balbagon (Camiguin) on Mon/Wed/Fri, ~4.5 hours, ₱766. Departs 1:00 PM. Via CDO: Trans-Asia overnight ferry from Tagbilaran to Cagayan de Oro (~11.5 hrs, from ₱1,230, 2–3x weekly), then overland to Balingoan port (~1.5 hrs), then short ferry to Camiguin (~1 hr). The direct route is simpler; the CDO route lets you explore Mindanao.

Camiguin is a small volcanic island off the coast of Mindanao — hot springs, waterfalls, and near-empty beaches. Getting there from Bohol is easier than it used to be, thanks to a direct ferry that many travel sites haven't caught up with yet.
| Route | Duration | Cost | Frequency | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Direct (Super Shuttle RORO) | ~4.5 hrs | ₱766 | Mon/Wed/Fri | Simplicity, cost |
| Via CDO + Balingoan | ~14–16 hrs total | ₱1,500–2,500+ | 2–3x weekly | Exploring CDO, flexible dates |
Our Recommendation
Take the direct Super Shuttle if your travel days align (Mon/Wed/Fri). It's one boat, 4.5 hours, done. The CDO route is a proper expedition — only worth it if you want to see Cagayan de Oro or can't travel on a direct ferry day.

Super Shuttle RORO runs a direct service from Jagna port (southeast Bohol) to Balbagon port (Camiguin). This is the route most travellers should take.
Super Shuttle RORO — Jagna to Balbagon
Departs Jagna port at 1:00 PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Arrives at Balbagon port, Camiguin. RORO vessel (roll-on, roll-off) — can carry vehicles too.
Important: Jagna port is on the southeast coast of Bohol, about 1.5–2 hours from Panglao by road. If you're staying in Panglao or Tagbilaran, you need to factor in the overland transfer to Jagna. Leave early — aim to arrive at Jagna port by 11:30 AM at the latest.
Discounted fares are available for students (₱612), senior citizens/PWD (₱547), and children aged 3–11 (₱383).

This is the longer route through mainland Mindanao. It works if the direct ferry days don't suit your schedule, or if you want to stop in CDO.
Leg 1: Tagbilaran → Cagayan de Oro (Trans-Asia)
Trans-Asia Shipping operates this route — an overnight ferry departing Tagbilaran. This is a large cargo/passenger vessel, not a fast ferry. Runs 2–3 times per week (typically Tue/Thu/Sat, but confirm with the operator).
Leg 2: CDO → Balingoan Port (Overland)
From CDO port, hire a van or take public transport north to Balingoan ferry terminal. The drive is roughly 90km through Mindanao countryside.
Leg 3: Balingoan → Camiguin (Benoni/Balbagon)
Multiple operators run the short crossing from Balingoan to Camiguin, including Super Shuttle Ferry, Philstone Shipping, and others. Ferries run throughout the day.

Check Schedules & Prices →CDO Route: Timing That Works
The Trans-Asia ferry typically arrives in CDO in the early morning. From there, you need to get to Balingoan — a 1.5–2 hour drive. Aim to catch a late-morning or early afternoon Camiguin ferry from Balingoan.
The last Balingoan–Camiguin ferry is typically around 5 PM. Build in a buffer — if CDO traffic delays you or the ferry arrives late, missing the last Camiguin crossing means an unplanned night in Balingoan (limited accommodation).
The overnight option: If you'd rather not rush, stay one night in CDO. It's a proper city with good hotels, malls, and food. Next morning, drive to Balingoan at a comfortable pace and catch a midday Camiguin ferry.

Jagna is on Bohol's southeast coast — roughly 75km from Panglao. Transport options:
- Hired van/car: ₱1,500–2,500 for a private transfer. 1.5–2 hours depending on road conditions. Most reliable option.
- Motorbike: If you've rented a scooter, the ride is scenic but long. Good roads most of the way. Allow 2+ hours.
- Public jeepney/bus: Budget option, ₱100–200. Takes longer (2.5+ hours) with stops.
